Shoes, Shoes, Shoes…What’s A Person To Wear For Indoor Volleyball?

If you’ve decided that volleyball is your game of choice, it’s important to have the right gear. Luckily, you don’t need much to play the game, especially if you’re playing for fun, but once you get that volleyball net set up it is important to choose the right shoes.

If you’re really ready to get into the game, there are shoes made just for volleyball which you can find at any sporting good shoe store. If you aren’t ready to make an investment in shoes and are looking at the ones you already have, these are some things to keep in mind:

  • Court shoes for tennis or racquetball are a good choice because they will have great traction and allow for movement in all directions.
  • Cross-trainers are another possibility, as they have many of the same features.
  • Running shoes are not the best choice as they are designed with forward movement in mind. The multi-directional moves required in volleyball may result in a sprained ankle because running shoes don’t have support for that type of movement.
  • Basketball shoes are heavy, and also not made for range of movement.

If you’re new to volleyball, you may want to try a few different options from your closet, but if you decide this is a sport you want to stick with, it would be worth it to invest in volleyball shoes. They are made for quick starts and stops and absorb the shock when you jump. They also have great traction for changing directions and are lightweight so that you can be quick on the court.
