CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup semifinals decided

Budapest, Hungary, January 30, 2012 – Teams taking part in the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup semifinals learnt their fate on Friday after the drawing of lots were completed in Budapest, Hungary.

The two tournaments are slated to take place from May 14 to 20 in Switzerland and France. CEV vice-president and European Beach Volleyball Commission president Renato Arena supervised the drawing.

A total of 16 nations per gender were drawn as per their seed, which was calculated using the results from the four Zonal Phase tournaments which were completed last year. Russia and Turkey, hosts of the women’s and men’s finals respectively, have automatically qualified for the final alongside the winners of the Zonal Phase; Germany, Austria and the Netherlands for both genders, as well as Latvia in the men’s bracket and Switzerland in the women’s.

The winners of the semifinal will book their place in the final from June 18 to 24 with a spot at the London 2012 Olympic Games on the line.

Teams were drawn by avoiding those from the same Zonal Phase tournament.
