Dates confirmed for EBTC V

BORGO MAGGIORE, SAN MARINO: In an announcement released on 13 January 2012, Tennis Europe has confirmed that the fifth edition of the European Beach Tennis Championships will be held from 31 August - 2 September 2012. The team event, organised by Tennis Europe, will take place at the IBS Beach Planet resort in Borgo Maggiore in San Marino.

The European Beach Tennis Championships is one of the highlights on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour. The 2011 edition saw the Italians victorious as 120 players from 19 nations competed for the much sought after title. As one of the top performing nations in Europe, the Sammarinese team will be a strong contender in 2012 looking to maximise their home advantage as they play host to the top players from around the continent.

On San Marino being named as first time hosts of these Championships Tennis Europe Chief Executive Officer Olli Maenpaa commented: “San Marino already has a fine beach tennis tradition and is one of the best-performing nations in Europe”.

ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: “The European Beach Tennis Championships have always been a major highlight for players, and we are sure they will appreciate the opportunity to showcase their talents in San Marino”.

Previous years have seen Italy, Turkey and Bulgaria host this prestigious event on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour.
