European Olympic qualifying groups announced in Sofia
Sofia, Bulgaria, January 24, 2012 – The battle lines for the Men’s European Continental Olympic Qualification tournament were drawn on Friday after the two pools were decided at a special ceremony in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The eight teams will clash for just one place to the London 2012 Olympic Games from May 8 to 13 at “Arena Armeets” in Bulgaria’s capital city.
The hosts will take on Serbia, Spain and Slovenia in Pool A while Pool B features European heavyweights Italy, Germany and Finland alongside Slovakia.
The first and second ranked team from each Pool will play crossed semifinals (1A v 2B and 1B v 2A) before the finals. Russia and Poland have already qualified for the Games after finishing first and third at the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup 2011 in Japan.
