Volleyball Tournament Bracket Unveiled

SPARTANBURG, S.C.— Samford and College of Charleston have earned the top seeds in their respective divisions for the Southern Conference volleyball championship. The event begins Saturday, November 19 at Pete Hanna Center at Samford University.  Appalachian State (20-10, 12-4), which earned the No. 2 seed in the North Division, will take on Georgia Southern (18-14, 10-6) in the first match of the quarterfinals. The Mountaineers won their final two league matches, including a win over Samford which snapped their 12-match win streak. College of Charleston (23-9, 14-2) sports the best conference record entering the championship and is on a nine-match win streak. The Cougars will entertain Elon (19-13, 7-9), which earned the No.4 North seed in the second match following its wins over UNCG and The Citadel. Furman (20-8, 13-3) and Western Carolina (13-9, 8-8) will play in the third match of the quarterfinals. The Paladins have won their last two conference matches.  Samford (26-4, 13-3), the No. 1 seed in the north, will play Davidson (15-14, 5-11) in the primetime match Saturday. Both the Bulldogs and the Wildcats lost their final regular season matches.  The tournament winner earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Championships.

#1N Samford vs. #4S Davidson, 8:00 p.m.

November 20 (Sunday)
Semifinals—Birmingham, Ala.
Appalachian State-Georgia Southern winner vs. College of Charleston-Elon winner, 3:00 p.m.
Furman-Western Carolina winner vs. Samford-Davidson winner, 5:30 p.m.

November 21 (Monday)
Championship—Birmingham, Ala.
Championship Match (ESPN3), 7:00 p.m.
