Seeds, Orewiler, White Earn Weekly Volleyball Honors
by Southern Conference
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s Maggie Seeds, UNCG’s Kellie Orewiler, and College of Charleston’s Sloane White have been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today.
Seeds helped the Mountaineers finish 2-0 last week as they logged their ninth straight home win this season. The senior outside hitter tallied a match-high 14 kills against UNCG along with a match-high 12 kills against Elon.
The Clemmons, N.C. native now ranks seventh in Appalachian State history with 250 block assists.
Orewiler averaged 7.12 digs per set in UNCG’s two matches last week. On Friday, she recorded a match-high 21 digs, which marked the seventh time this season she eclipsed the 20-dig mark.
The libero/defensive specialist turned around and recorded a career-high 36 digs on Sunday against Western Carolina. The 36 digs marked only the third time this season she had 30 or more digs in a match, as she became just the seventh player nationally to accomplish the feat. The record is also tied for the fourth-most digs in a four-set Division I match this season.
For the fourth time this season, Sloane White was selected as the Freshman of the Week. The right-side hitter tied for the team lead with 14 kills in a five-set win over Georgia Southern while recording a team-best and career-high 20 kills in a win over Davidson.
The Indianapolis native tallied 34 kills as the Cougars finished the week 2-0. She made three kills, including the set-winner at Davidson Saturday afternoon.
