CAA VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY REPORT - OCT. 31

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Vineece Verdun - Georgia State
Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover, Sr., Middle Blocker


Verdun led Georgia State to CAA victories over George Mason and James Madison. For the week, the senior posted 37 kills (4.11 kills per set) and an outstanding hitting percentage of .515. In a five-set win over George Mason, Verdun tallied 23 kills, seven digs and a service ace. Against JMU, Verdun recorded 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .565 in a four-set win.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Paige Sekerak - Towson
Montgomery Village, Md./Poolesville, Fr., Defensive Setter


Sekerak helped the Tigers sweep Delaware, posting 18 digs (6.00 digs per set). The freshman also added two service aces and two assists. With the win Towson swept the season series with Delaware.


ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Jillian Briner - Northeastern
Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park & River Forest, Fr., Setter/Outside Hitter


Briner assisted Northeastern to a perfect week, defeating William & Mary and VCU. The freshman tallied 25 kills (3.12), eight digs (1.06) and seven service aces on the week. In a five-set win over VCU, Briner posted 17 kills, 26 assists and four service aces.

CAA QUICK HITS:


HUSKIES PERFECT IN OCTOBER: Northeastern posted two league wins, making the Huskies perfect for the month of October. Currently on an eight-match win streak, Northeastern has not been defeated since a setback against Delaware on Sept. 30.

NORTHEASTERN RANKS NATIONALLY IN ACES: Northeastern ranks fifth nationally as a team in aces per set (1.83). The Huskies have 126 total aces on the season.
 

PANTHERS TOUGH AT HOME:
With two home CAA wins (George Mason and James Madison), Georgia State improved to 10-2 over the past two season in home league matches.

TOWSON REACHES 20 WINS: Towson improved to 20-7 on the season after sweeping Delaware. It is the first time since 2006 that the Tigers have reached 20 wins.

ABEL RECEIVES HONOR:
Last week's CAA Offensive Player of the Week Natalie Abel was named a top performer by the Collegiate Volleyball Update. The JMU junior has earned CAA Offensive accolades three times this season.

KELIIKOA POSTS SEASON-HIGH:
Towson's I'ishah Kelilkoa tallied a season-high 13 kills in a sweep over Delaware.

MANEJA MARCHES TOWARD HOFSTRA RECORD: Junior Kylee Maneja picked up 24 digs last week to give her 1,436 career digs. Maneja is sixth in school history and closing in on Naomi Shimada (1991-94) who is fifth with 1,478 career digs.

WALTERS RECORDS SEASON-HIGH: VCU middle blocker Jasmine Walters recorded a season-high 10 blocks in Saturday's defeat to Northeastern.

VERDUN ECLIPSES 1,000 KILLS:
CAA Preseason Player of the Year Vineece Verdun passed 1,000 career kills over the weekend. Verdun now has 1,002 career kills, exactly 900 at Georgia State after playing one season at Michigan State. The senior also posted a season-high 23 kills against George Mason.
