TULSA, Okla. - Jessica Adams recorded 26 digs and Tyler Henderson slammed 19 kills to lead the Tulsa volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20) Conference USA win over UAB Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The Golden Hurricane won its eighth straight match and improved to 21-5 overall and 12-1 in C-USA play. With her 26 digs, Adams broke the Tulsa career digs record, surpassing Evyn Wills (2002-05). Adams, a junior from Oklahoma City, now has 1,609 digs in two-plus seasons.
UAB, which fell to 18-7 overall and 8-5 in league play, was led by Heather Thomas, who had 28 digs, and Ashley Ricks, who had 12 kills.
Diana Silva picked up her 10th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 12 digs, while Kellie Culbertson scored her ninth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Bailey Clampitt recorded 32 assists, five digs and a two service aces, while Jordan Clampitt added 30 assists. Kelsey Hancock tallied eight kills, Carly Boatwright had seven kills, five digs and two blocks, and Miriele Gobbo contributed five kills and a pair of blocks.
"We started off really well in the first set. I thought we played a solid first set, low errors, which is something we've been working on," Tulsa Head Coach Steven McRoberts said. "In the second set, we made 16 errors. A lot of credit goes to UAB. They played a great match. They played us tougher here than at their place. We were able to refocus and re-energize ourselves during the break, and came back out and played really well in those last two sets."
Tulsa hit .236 as a team (66-28-161) with 66 kills, 65 assists, five service aces, 65 digs and 4.0 blocks. UAB hit .171 (41-19-129) with 41 kills, 38 assists, one ace, 58 digs and 9.0 blocks.
The Golden Hurricane returns to the court next weekend when it travels to New Orleans to play two matches at Tulane. The Hurricane and Green Wave play Saturday and Sunday, both at 1 p.m.
