SAN JOSE STATE’S LEAF EARNS WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
San Jose State freshman leftside hitter Savanah Leaf has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 17-23. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor for Leaf.

The San Anselmo, Calif., native averaged 3.56 kills, 3.44 digs, 0.44 blocks and 4.06 points per set as the Spartans went 2-0 on the week with wins over Utah State and Idaho. Against Utah State, Leaf posted her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs to go along with four blocks and three assists. Against Idaho, she had a match-high 19 kills and 17 digs for her sixth double-double of the year. It was the first time the Spartans have won two WAC home matches in the same week since the 2007 season.

Other nominees included: Fresno State’s Brianna Clarke averaged 3.86 kills and 1.14 blocks per set as the Bulldogs went 2-0 on the week ... Emily Hartong of Hawai‘i averaged 3.31 kills and 1.85 digs per set as the Rainbow Wahine went 4-0 on the week and remained unbeaten in WAC play ... Idaho’s Alicia Milo averaged 4.62 kills, 2.75 digs and 0.50 blocks per set ... Clara Vido of Louisiana Tech averaged 2.50 kills and 3.67 digs per set in two matches last week ... Nevada’s Tessa Lea‘ea averaged 3.29 kills on .452 hitting and 1.29 blocks per set as the Wolf Pack went 1-1 on the week ... Jennah DeVries of New Mexico State averaged 9.67 assists and 4.67 digs in the Aggies’ only match last week

UH’S HEWITT SURPASSES 400 CAREER BLOCKS
In the Rainbow Wahine’s sweep of Utah State on Oct. 21, middle blocker Brittany Hewitt recorded her 400th career block. The junior now has 405 career blocks, just outside the Hawai‘i top 10 in the category.

BUCHANAN SET TO BECOME ALL-TIME WINS LEADER AT IDAHO
When the Vandals defeated Fresno State on Oct. 15, it was career win number 174 for Idaho head coach Debbie Buchanan, all at Idaho. In her 12th year at the helm, she is currently tied with Tom Hilbert (1989-1996) for most wins in program history and needs one more victory to become the all-time leader in the 38-year history of the program.

DANIELSON FINALIST FOR LOWE’S SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Hawai‘i’s Kanani Danielson is one of 10 student-athletes selected as finalists for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
 
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from 30 candidates. Nationwide fan voting has begun to determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the
Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Web site or the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through Nov. 21. Fan votes will be combined with media and head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

Utah State’s Liz McArthur was one of the 30 initial candidates for the award.

HAWAI‘I LEADS NATION IN ATTENDANCE
Hawai‘i leads the nation with an average of 6,400 fans per match, more than 1,600 ahead of the second-place team, Nebraska (4,736). Seventeen  of the Rainbow Wahine’s 18 home matches this rank in the top 32 most attended matches this season. Meanwhile, New Mexico State ranks 24th (1,560) and Fresno State ranks 43rd (1,060).

WAC STAT LEADERS
In team statistics, Hawai‘i leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.299), assists (13.14) and kills (14.45). Utah State is tops in digs (16.18) and blocks (2.85), while New Mexico State leads the league in opponent hitting percentage (.148) and Fresno State is tops in service aces (1.58).

Individually, New Mexico State’s Meredith Hays leads the WAC in kills (4.39) and points (4.85). Hawai‘i’s Emily Hartong, Mita Uiato and Brittany Hewitt are tops in hitting percentage (.396), assists (11.04) and blocks (1.43), respectively. Fresno State’s Barbara Alcantara leads the WAC in service aces (0.36), while Stephany Salas of Louisiana Tech is tops in digs (4.53).

In WAC matches, Hawai‘i leads the league in hitting percentage (.289), opponent hitting percentage (.126), kills (14.00) and blocks (2.81). New Mexico State is tops in assists (12.74), while Fresno State leads the league in service aces (1.53) and Idaho is tops in digs (15.44).

Individually, Hays leads the WAC in kills (4.59) and points (5.07). Idaho’s Alyssa Schultz is tops in hitting percentage (.373), while Fresno State’s Korrin Wild leads the league in service aces (0.44). Jennah DeVries of New Mexico State is the leader in assists (10.96), while Hawai‘i’s Kalei Adolpho is tops in blocks (1.40) and Idaho’s Cassie Hamilton is the leader in digs (4.38).

WAC TOURNAMENT TICKETS ON SALE NOW
All-session tickets are on sale for the WAC Volleyball Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas Nov. 21-23. Tickets are general admission seating. The 2011 tournament will consist of five matches in three sessions.

Single-Session Students/Youth: $10

TWO WAC MATCHES AIR ON ESPNU
ESPNU will televise two WAC women’s volleyball matches this season as part of its Wednesday Night Women’s Volleyball package. On Oct. 12, the network aired the Hawai‘i at New Mexico State which went to five sets. In addition, the network will air the championship match of the WAC Tournament at 6 p.m. (PT) Wednesday, Nov. 23.

FRESNO STATE BULLDOGS (10-11, 4-4 WAC)
Fresno State swept Cal State Bakersfield (25-14, 25-15, 25-20) last Wednesday and defeated Nevada (18-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-16) on Saturday ... Against CSUB, Brianna Clarke tallied 12 kills, while Korrin Wild added 11 ... In the win over Nevada, Wild posted her fourth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs ... Clarke added 15 kills and five blocks ... The win against the Pack gave Fresno State its first season sweep of Nevada since 2003 ... Wild ranks second in the WAC in service aces (0.35) and sixth in digs (3.26) ... Barbara Alcantara leads the WAC in service aces (0.36) and ranks seventh in assists (8.12) ... Cecilia Agraz is sixth in the WAC in aces (0.31), while Clarke is fourth in hitting percentage (.336) ... As a team, Fresno State leads the WAC in service aces per set (1.58), ranks third in assists (11.74) and fourth in kills (12.35) ... In conference-only stats, Wild leads the WAC in service aces (0.44), is fifth in points (4.16) and seventh in kills (3.53) ... In WAC matches only, Fresno State averages a league-best 1.53 service aces and ranks third in assists (11.56) ... The Bulldogs host No. 7 Hawai‘i on Thursday and San Jose State on Saturday.

HAWAI‘I RAINBOW WAHINE (21-1, 9-0 WAC)
Hawai‘i defeated Notre Dame last Monday (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) and Tuesday (25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21), then swept Utah State (25-16, 25-21, 25-11) and Idaho (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) to remain unbeaten in WAC play ... Kanani Danielson posted double-doubles in all three matches she played last week to move her season total to a WAC-leading 13 ... When Danielson sat out the Utah State match, it ended a streak of 85 consecutive matches played, dating back to her sophomore season in 2009 ... Hawai‘i ranks second nationally in hitting percentage (.299), third in winning percentage (.955), 11th in kills (14.45), 12th in blocks (2.84) and 21st in assists (13.14) ... Mita Uiato ranks 31st nationally in assists (11.04), while Brittany Hewitt is 12th in blocks (1.43) ... Emily Hartong ranks 13th in the nation in hitting percentage (.396), while Danielson is 37th in points (4.65) and 45th in kills (4.03) ... As a team, Hawai‘i leads the WAC in hitting percentage, assists and kills ... Hartong leads the WAC in hitting percentage, while Chanteal Satele is third (.338), Hewitt is sixth (.330) and Danielson is 10th (.299) ... IDAHO VANDALS  (11-11, 5-4 WAC)
Idaho fell at San Jose State (23-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19, 12-15) last Friday and at No. 8 Hawai‘i (23-25, 22-25, 23-25) on Sunday ... Alicia Milo had a double-double with 18 kills and 14 digs while hitting .354 vs. San Jose State ... Milo posted a match-high 19 kills vs. the Rainbow Wahine ... Head coach Debbie Buchanan is tied for the program wins record with 174 career victories ... As a team, the Vandals rank 50th nationally in blocks (2.49) ... Alyssa Schultz ranks 28th in the nation in blocks (1.28), while Jenny Feicht is 40th in assists (10.82) ... The Vandals rank second in the WAC in digs (15.42), third in hitting percentage (.208), kills (12.62) and blocks (2.49), and fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.185) and assists (11.63) ... Schultz ranks second in the conference in blocks and eighth in hitting percentage (.305), while Allison Walker is third in kills (4.00) and points (4.40) ... Feicht is second in the league in assists and eighth in service aces (0.30), while Cassie Hamilton is second in digs (4.40) ... Milo ranks fifth in the WAC in both kills (3.65) and points (4.07) ... LOUISIANA TECH LADY TECHSTERS (9-16, 0-8 WAC)
Louisiana Tech fell to Northwestern State (23-25, 21-25, 16-25) last Wednesday and New Mexico State (16-25, 14-25, 22-25) on Saturday ... Against Northwestern State, Clara Vido posted her ninth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs ... Nataliya Panova and Stephany Salas added 13 and 12 digs, respectively ... Against the Aggies, Emily Maher recorded a match-high five blocks, while Bianca Bin dished out 20 assists ... As a team, LA Tech ranks third in the WAC in service aces (1.34) and digs (15.11), and fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.196) ... Stephany Salas leads the WAC with 4.53 digs per set ... Vido ranks seventh in the WAC in digs (3.17) and ninth in kills (2.82) ... Bin ranks eighth in the WAC with 7.77 assists per set, while Ana Rodrigues is 10th with 0.26 service aces per set ... In WAC play, Bin ranks eighth in the league in assists (6.39), while Marcella Braz is 10th in kills (2.62) ... The Techsters play at Idaho on Thursday and at Utah State on Saturday.

NEVADA WOLF PACK (4-16, 1-7 WAC)
Nevada swept Seattle U (29-27, 25-20, 26-24) last Thursday, then fell at Fresno State (25-18, 21-25, 13-25, 16-25) on Saturday ... Against Seattle U, Tessa Lea‘ea led the team with 12 kills on .450 hitting ... Against the Bulldogs, Lea‘ea tallied a team-best 11 kills on .455 hitting to go with eight blocks ... Tatiana Santiago posted a double-double of 31 assists and 16 digs ... Santiago ranks fifth on the Nevada career assists charts with 2,456 ... As a team, Nevada ranks fourth in the conference in service aces (1.31) ... Grace Anxo ranks third in the WAC in service aces (0.34), while Santiago is fourth in assists (9.63) and Kelly Chang is fifth in digs (3.46) ... Lea‘ea is fifth in the league in hitting percentage (.333), while Janelle Batista ranks seventh in hitting percentage (.313), ninth in points (3.39) and 10th in kills (2.75) ... New Mexico State swept Louisiana Tech (25-16, 25-14, 25-22) on Saturday in their only match last week ... Jennah DeVries posted her 10th double-double of the season with match highs of 29 assists and 14 digs ... Meredith Hays finished with 13 kills and 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season ... DeVries has 3,683 career assists, good for fourth place all-time at NM State ... The Aggies rank 30th nationally in winning percentage (.783), 37th in kills (13.87) and 39th in assists (12.87) ... Hays leads the WAC and ranks 18th nationally in kills (4.39) and tops the conference and ranks 22nd in the nation in points (4.85) ... DeVries ranks third in the conference and 45th nationally in assists (10.76) ... Michelle Kuester ranks fourth in the WAC and 47th nationally in blocks (1.22) ... Kelsey Brennan is second in the league in hitting percentage (.348), while Kelsi Phillips is fourth in digs (4.13) and ninth in service aces (0.27) ... As a team, NM State leads the WAC in opponent hitting percentage (.148), and is second in hitting percentage (.217), assists (12.87) and kills (13.87) ... SAN JOSE STATE SPARTANS  (9-13, 4-5 WAC)
San Jose State defeated Utah State (25-21, 25-12, 15-25, 26-24) last Wednesday and beat Idaho in five sets (25-23, 18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-12) last Friday ... It was the first time the team has won two WAC home matches in the same week since the 2007 season ... Against the Aggies, Savanah Leaf posted a double-double of 13 kills and 14 digs to go along with four blocks ... Against the Vandals, Leaf posted her sixth double-double of the season with a match-high 19 kills and 17 digs ... Krista Miller (13 kills, 20 digs) and Caitlin Andrade (career-high 62 assists, 11 digs) also posted double-doubles ... Andrade moved into sixth place on the SJSU career assist list with 2,528, 20 shy of fifth place ... Andrade ranks fifth in the WAC with 9.55 assists per set, while Kylie Miraldi is ninth in hitting percentage (.304) ... Kiely Pieper ranks fifth in the conference in service aces (0.31), while Katie Turner is eighth in digs (2.95), and Leaf is seventh in kills (2.97) and eighth in points (3.42) ... UTAH STATE AGGIES (9-13, 4-5 WAC)
Utah State fell at San Jose State (21-25, 12-25, 25-15, 24-26) last Wednesday and was swept by No. 8 Hawai‘i (16-25, 21-25, 11-25) last Friday ... Against SJSU, Liz McArthur finished with 17 kills, eight digs and four blocks, while Paige Neves posted a double-double of 38 assists and 21 digs to go with four blocks ... Against UH, Utah State hit a season-low -.045 on the match with a season-low 19 kills and 19 assists ... McArthur ranks third all-time at Utah State in career attempts (3,966), fourth in kills (1,331) and 10th in service aces (88) ... As a team, the Aggies lead the WAC and 11th nationally in blocks (2.85) ... Utah State leads the league in digs (16.18) and ranks third in opponent hitting percentage (.166) ... Utah State boasts four of the top 10 blockers in the WAC – Alyssa Everett (3rd, 1.24), Kaitlyn VanHoff (5th, 1.19), Nicole Gneiting-Theurer (6th, 1.16) and Josselyn White (7th, 1.14) ...
