CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Natalie Abel • James Madison
Washington, Pa./Trinity, Jr., Outside Hitter
Abel recorded two double-doubles to help James Madison to a pair of road sweeps over VCU and William & Mary. The junior finished the week with 25 kills (4.17 kills per set) on .364 hitting, 21 digs (3.50 digs per set) and three service aces. Against VCU Abel tallied 13 kills and 11 digs, while posting 12 kills and 10 digs against the Tribe.
CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Aubrey Kirven • Towson
Uniontown, Ohio/Lake, Jr., Setter
Kirven helped Towson to two CAA victories over UNCW and Georgia State. The junior setter had 104 assists, including recording 60 against Georgia State. Kirven was the first Tiger since Kim Snider in 2006 to post 60 assists in a match. She also added 19 digs (2.71 digs per set) on the week.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Paige Sekerak • Towson
Montgomery Village, Md./Poolesville, Fr., Defensive Setter
Sekerak posted 38 digs (5.43 digs per set) in two CAA wins last week, including a career-high 28 digs in a four-set victory over Georgia State. The freshman defensive specialist has recorded 10 or more digs in every CAA match this season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Natalia Skiba • Northeastern
Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central, Fr., Libero
Skiba led the Huskies with 20 digs (6.67 digs per set) in a straight-set victory over Hofstra. The freshman leads Northeastern with 5.32 digs per set on the season.
CAA QUICK HITS:
- Delaware picked up two CAA victories last week to improve its winning streak to a season-best six matches. The Blue Hens' victory over UNCW (3-0) was their 14th straight win in the series.
- Towson improved to 19-7 on the season after two home CAA wins. 19 victories are the most for the Tigers since the 2008 squad won 19 matches.
- After trailing George Mason 0-2, VCU rebounded for a 3-2 victory. It was the first time since Oct. 7, 2005 that VCU rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win.
- Northeastern (6-2) has won six consecutive CAA matches. That matches the Huskies' longest CAA winning streak since they opened 7-0 in 2008.
ALASOMUKA SERVES UP ACES: William & Mary's Celine Alasomuka tied a career-best five aces in a 3-1 victory against George Mason. Her total is tied for the ninth-best ever for the Tribe in a four-set match.
ARAGAO HANDS OUT ASSISTS: VCU freshman Cecilia Aragao dished out a personal-best 57 assists in VCU's comeback 3-2 win over George Mason.
BENDIG TOPS 2,000 ASSISTS: UNC Wilmington senior Kelsey Bendig recorded 26 assists against Towson last Friday to become the fifth player in program history to record 2,000 assists. Bendig needs just 53 more assists to move into a tie for fourth place on the program's all-time list.
GEORGIA STATE DUO CLOSES IN ON 1,000 MARKS: Senior Vineece Verdun stands justs 35 kills away from 1,000 for her career. Junior Jamiee Freeman pushes toward 1,000 career digs, with 974 through play this weekend.
KANGWA ECLIPSES 1,000 POINTS: Georgia State senior Muki Kangwa topped 1,000 career points after racking up 18 points on 17 kills against Towson. Kangwa now has 1,011 points over her four-year career at Georgia State.
KIRVEN RACKS UP ASSISTS: Towson's Aubrey Kirven recorded 60 assists in a 3-1 win over Georgia State. Kirven is the first Tiger since 2006 to record 60 assists in a match.
LAWRENCE BLOCKS WAY TO CAREER-HIGH: Delaware junior Chelsea Lawrence posted a career-high eight blocks in a 3-0 win over UNCW.
MANEJA MOVES UP HOFSTRA MARKS: Junior Kylee Maneja picked up 21 digs against Northeastern last week to give her 1,412 career digs. Maneja is tied for sixth in school history with Ines Portuondo (1988-90) and is just 66 digs out of fifth place (1,478).
SEKERAK POSTS CAREER-HIGH: Towson's Paige Sekerak posted a career-high digs in the Tigers' 3-1 victory against Georgia State. Sekerak has tallied at least 10 or more digs in every CAA match this season.
