Akana, Morgan, and McGuinness Take Home Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week Taylor Akana, Siena, So., Outside Hitter, 5-6, Kaneohe, Hawaii/Kamehameha
Akana had a monster weekend leading Siena to its fourth straight league win to get back in the race for the Championship. She averaged an astounding 6.14 kills and posted a .370 attack percentage from the outside. In the Saints' 3-1 win over Loyola Sunday, she racked up 25 kills, and played a huge role down the stretch, recording two of the match's final three points as Siena fended off set points to take the match. Akana completed her 12th double-double of the season with 11 digs. She added 18 kills in just three sets in Siena's sweep of Rider Saturday. The sophomore is now averaging 4.3 kills per set, the most in the MAAC.
Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Morgan, Niagara, Sr., Libero, 5-9, Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain
Sam Morgan continued her NCAA-best double-digit digs streak to 121 matches while averaging 27 digs per match in wins over Canisius, Fairfield and Iona. Morgan had match-highs in each match and averaged 6.75 digs per set. Morgan's organization and leadership on the back row were pivotal in close matches versus the Stags and the Gaels over the weekend. Morgan collected a season-high 34 digs, which were three shy of her career-high, in the four-set win against Fairfield. Morgan had a match-high 20 digs and reception percentage of .962 (25-for-26) in a 3-2 win over Iona which extended the Purple Eagles' conference win streak to 31 matches.
Rookie of the Week
Malia McGuinness, Manhattan, Fr., OH/MB, 5-10, Kailua, Hawaii/Maryknoll School
McGuinness hit .413 and averaged 4.43 kills per set in road wins over Loyola and Saint Peter's last week. She recorded a double-double in the victory at Loyola on Wednesday night, posting 15 kills and 15 digs. McGuinness hit .382 against the Greyhounds, committing just two errors in 34 attempts. She also notched a service ace and a block assist. Then on Saturday against Saint Peter's, she pounded a match-high 16 kills on .448 hitting in the 3-0 victory. McGuinness added six digs and two assists in the win over the Peahens.
