Sykora, Juliana, Larissa nominated for top women's award

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 2, 2011 – 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch world champions Brazil’s Juliana Felisberta da Silva and Larissa França and Olympic champions USA’s Stacy Sykora have been nominated for the 2011 Sportswoman of the Year award.

The honour recognizes team sport athletes whose performances over the past year have been exceptional.

Juliana and Larissa have been highlighted by the Women’s Sport Foundation, who run the awards, after picking up their fourth World Tour title as well as the World Championships.

Stacy Sykora’s performances at the 2010 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Japan, which saw her pick up the Best Libero award, as well as helping her side to the 2010 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix title have seen her earn a nomination as well. In April 2011, Sykora was in a serious bus accident while competing with her club team, Volei Futuro, in Brazil; her condition required her to be admitted to the intensive care unit with trauma to the brain. Sykora continues her rehabilitation with the ultimate goal of being named to her fourth U.S. Olympic Volleyball Team.
