Boys' Youth world champs welcomed over 85,000 fans

Buenos Aires, Argentina, September 2, 2011 - The 2011 FIVB Boys' Youth World Championship in Argentina from August 19 to 28 was not only a great success for many of the teams, but also for Almirante Brown and Bahía Blanca as over 85,000 spectators attended the 64 matches over the course of the tournament.

Exactly 85,147 people, with an average of 1,330 per match, came out to watch the stars of tomorrow step onto the court. Of course, when the hosts played those average numbers increased to over 3,500.

The final between Serbia and Spain also saw 3,500 fans pack into the Gimnasio Osvaldo Casanova while the first round match between Russia and China welcomed 2,750 people.

In Almirante Brown, where places 9-16 were played, people happily watched matches at the city’s Sport Centre taking different sides on each occasion. Egypt, USA, Puerto Rico and Brazil were the most popular teams and the match featuring Brazil v Iran for 9th place was played in front of 2,000 fans.
