Brazil retains top spot despite falling short at World Grand Prix

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 30, 2011 – Brazil remain on top of the FIVB Women’s World Ranking despite going down to USA in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix finals while Russia move into the top three at the expense of Japan and Italy after the tables were updated on Wednesday.

Despite Brazil losing to USA in the final of the premier annual women’s volleyball tournament for the second year running they managed to keep hold of the world No.1 spot.

Meanwhile Serbia’s thrilling campaign – which saw them win bronze on their debut in the tournament – has seen them move up three places to sixth while Thailand enter the top ten by moving up four spots from 14th to 10th after they ranked sixth at the tournament.

Korea moved up four spots to 14th despite narrowly missing out on a place in the finals in Macau, China while Kazahkstan and Argentina also profited from their participation, climbing to 18th and 22nd respectively.
