Manhattan Beach boasts no fewer than 19 athletes who go home with medals from the AAU's Southern Pacific Regional Championships in Hermosa Beach.

The Amateur Athletic Union’s Southern Pacific Beach Volleyball Championships were held in Hermosa Beach but had Manhattan Beach written all over the tournament with 19 of the city's young athletes grabbing a medal. 

Indeed, the event showcased the bright future of beach volleyball, as Beach Cities teams took five out of six gold medal victories on Sunday.

Blake Markland of Manhattan Beach teamed with Tanner Smith of Hermosa Beach to win gold in the boys’ 14U division.  Markland and Smith battled Will Bantle of Manhattan Beach and Matt Douglas of Pacific Palisades in the finals, where their 28-23 victory earned them the top podium spot.  Read more
