Amidst the 90,000 fans getting their party on within the infield of the Pimlico racetrack on Saturday, the
National Volleyball League successfully served up its inaugural tournament at the 136th Preakness Stakes.
Located in some primo real estate, close to the entrance and near the Jagermeister music stage, several thousand spectators spilled into the event site throughout the day to catch this final day of competition.
Toting bottomless beer cups, black eyed susan cocktails, and unique coconut-filled concoctions, many caught the action courtside which featured several women’s matches and just one men’s match. You can credit the NVL owner, Albert Hannemann, with this strategic decision that was tailored to the partisan male crowd.
On the heels of a full day of preliminary play on Friday and some men’s do-or-die matches on Saturday morning at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the 64-team slate was whittled down to the top men’s and women’s teams vying for the NVL tournament title. Read more
